about the practitioner
At 17 years of age, Allegra laid the foundation for her future education and practice at New York University, where she studied dance and psychology. After graduation, she followed her passion for the stage for a few years, performing with small, off-Broadway theater and dance companies in New York City. During this time, Allegra experienced her first Reiki session and was soon initiated into the first level of Reiki.
After she worked for 10 years in non-profit and corporate environments, which lacked the creativity and movement that defined the first three decades of her life, Allegra answered the internal call to return to her fascination with movement, the body, and the mind, not from the viewpoint of a performer, but from the perspective of a practitioner and healer. She began working as a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2006, while living in New York City (Licensed in the State of Maryland since 2018). Her education at the Swedish Institute of Health Sciences, where she studied Massage Therapy, exposed her to Eastern Bodywork techniques aimed at balancing the body-mind-spirit elements of each person. With new knowledge of the physical body and the nervous system, and after discovering the power of bodywork in trauma healing, she decided to go back to her roots and combine her first loves. She received a Master of Science in Dance/Movement Therapy, a form of non-verbal, movement-based psychotherapy, from Pratt Institute in 2008.
In 2011, Allegra began training to be an Authentic Movement Practitioner (2013) with two of her former professors at Pratt Institute. In 2016, she became a 500-hour certified yoga teacher, and in 2017, a Usui Ryoho Reiki Master. She also holds a Master of Science in Nursing/Clinical Nurse Leader (2021) from the University of Maryland School of Nursing.
Allegra makes time every day to sit in nature, meditate, and dance. She loves chocolate, writing, photography, making jewelry, being surrounded by plants, lying on the beach with a good book, and getting "lost" in music.
